Crimp Terminal Installation Guide | Custom Terminals by Gleamco

Learn key crimp terminal installation points—wire strip length, crimp height, tooling, mounting torque—for custom stamped terminals from Gleamco, IATF 16949 certified.

A custom crimp terminal is only as good as its installation. Gleamco (Dongguan Yaotai Metal & Electronics Co., Ltd.) supplies precision-stamped custom crimp terminals—brass, phosphor bronze, copper, BeCu, 0.1–5 mm thick, tin/nickel/silver/gold plated, IATF 16949 & ISO 9001 certified—but field reliability still depends on correct mounting.

1. Match terminal to wire gauge

Use the AWG/mm² range stamped or specified in the drawing. Gleamco reeled terminals are supplied with carrier-strip pitch and barrel ID matched to your crimp applicator.

2. Strip to barrel depth + 0.5–1.0 mm

Strip too short → poor conduction; too long → exposed copper short risk. Never nick strands—nicked wire is a premature failure point.

3. Insert until insulation meets barrel mouth

All conductor strands must sit inside the crimp barrel. For insulated types, the insulation crimp must grip the jacket, not the copper.

4. Use matched, calibrated crimp tooling

Ratchet hand tools for prototypes; pneumatic/electric presses with crimp-height monitoring for volume. Target crimp height per Gleamco’s drawing, typically ±0.05 mm.

5. Complete the full crimp cycle

No partial squeezes. Barrel should close symmetrically—no high wings, no bell-mouth gap, no cracked plating.

6. Mount tongue correctly

Ring/spade: align to stud, use spring washer, torque to spec, no over-tightening that twists the tongue.

Quick disconnect (Faston): push straight on, verify retention force, avoid side-load in vibration zones.

7. Verify before energizing

Visual check + pull test (sample per lot). In automotive/harness runs, log crimp height every 500 cycles.

Gleamco supports DFM feedback, applicator-compatible reel specs, and rapid prototypes in 5 days—so your installation process starts from a terminal that is built to be crimped right.
